Placement within the Story | During the Edo period, this sake was made by the Kumamoto Domain as "okunizake" (The Country's Sake). It was even given as a present to the shogunate. Akazake gets it characteristic reddish color from the vegetation ashes that are added to preserve it. At present it is a special sake that is essential for New Years' 'o-toso.' (spiced medicinal sake traditionally drunk during New Year celebrations in Japan.) |
